Michael savage was talking the other day on how we nearly lost the second world war. Since someone wanted to talk of revised histories on that conflict, I'll talk about the false narrative the green movement now requires on the ME-262 jet fighter. Many recent histories on this aircraft came that since its turbines burned so much fuel it actually depleted the fuel reserves of German. Some have gone as far as to say to keep one ME-262 in the air used up the fuel for three ME-109 prop fighters. The problem is, its completely wrong. |
The truth is that people are no longer distinguishing between gasoline and jet fuel. The ME-109 and the FW-190 prop fighters flew on high octane Aviation gasoline. Stuff that would make the premium you put in your car look like low end regular. Jets however fly on jet fuel which is closer to Diesel in its burn properties and can't be used in a gasoline engine. You could fill the tank of a FW-190 with ME-262 jet fuel and you would crank the engine until doomsday and you wouldn't get it to kick over.
Oh, some would say that the jet fuel must therefore be a special process that wastes a lot of oil in its manufacture. Thus the new histories hold because if they made gasoline out of it, they would have made more fuel. But again thats a complete misunderstanding of how oil is refined. You don't create just jet fuel, or just gasoline, when you put oil through a refinery. You create both, and many other things, when you refine oil. The process of creating gasoline also creates as a byproduct, Diesel, Jet fuel, Plastics, nylon, polyester, and many other things.
Until the ME-262 came into existence, the by product we now call jet fuel was simply dumped into a waste pit. Thus, when the ME-262 came out it was flying on the waste product produced to support the other prop fighters and even the German tanks in gasoline. It never emptied any other vehicles fuel tanks: it simply added its presence to the Luftwaffe prop fighters already attacking American and British bombers. It was only when the germans could no longer get oil to process for high octane gasoline did the prop fighters get grounded: and when the prop fighters were grounded so also was grounded the ME-262.
